Saratoga PLAN is working to restore natural habitat at Glowegee Creek Trails – South.
The area unfortunately contains invasive phragmites. Invasive species damage natural habitat by outcompeting native plants, affecting soil stability, and ultimately limiting biodiversity. Sufficient food sources for wildlife, stable soils and a healthy, diverse habitat are all critical to helping local species survive and thrive amid a changing climate.
Work will include using hand tools to manually remove invasive species. Participants should have the ability to walk on grass covered surfaces with slight incline (a total of one mile or more of walking), and the ability to reach, bend down, get up frequently, and grip/pull/maneuver hand tools.
Participants are not required to have prior experience identifying or removing invasive species. Demonstrations regarding identification, removal method, and safety will be given before starting.
This project was contracted by the Capitol Region PRISM a Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management using funds from the Environmental Protection Fund as administered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
