From an expanded gravel parking lot to a refurbished storage facility, the Galway Nature Preserve is looking spiffy!

But such fantastic transformations don’t happen on their own.

Before: the unused building at Galway Nature Preserve.

These recent upgrades to the previously unused structure are the result of 43 hard-working volunteers who collectively put in 230 hours of their time and talents to bring this project to fruition. A true community effort, the project called upon volunteers from PLAN’s Monday Stewards, local contractors and engineers, and volunteers from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.

The existing structure at the Galway Nature Preserve has been transformed into The Stewardship Resource Center. It will house equipment and materials for Saratoga PLAN staff and stewardship volunteer use, alleviating past storage and equipment access issues. Long neglected, the building underwent a series of upgrades for safety and longevity, including: secured roofing, repointed walls, weatherproof paint, new doors, and landscaping changes to relieve pressure around the building footings. The project was completed over the course of two full work days on site.
