Local land trust Saratoga PLAN (Preserving Land and Nature) is happy to announce the permanent protection of the historic 221-acre Ropitzky family farms located in the Town of Stillwater. This land, once under intense development pressure, has been permanently protected under conservation easements held by Saratoga PLAN. Saratoga PLAN permanently protected 280 acres of agricultural land in the Town of Stillwater through a conservation easement with the owner of Questroyal North Farm, Barry Ostrager. This legal agreement ensures that the land will remain farmland forever, supporting the local agricultural community.
Questroyal North is a full-service breeding and mare boarding operation. The farm is home to Bucchero, currently the leading sire in New York (owned by Iron Horse Stallions), as well as Galilean and Courageous Cat, a stallion with more than $10 million in progeny earnings.
81 acres of forestland were permanently protected in the Town of Moreau through a conservation easement with private landowners Jan Kropp and Chuck Rowson.
The property serves as an important wooded and scenic buffer to Moreau Lake State Park. Its protection expands connected forestland in the area to 5,445 acres, supporting rare and endangered species, wildlife corridors, clean water, and scenic views.
Saratoga PLAN opens the127-acre Curtis Preserve in the Town of Corinth, whose northern boundary follows the historic “Blue Line” that defines the Adirondack Park.
The property’s mixed forest and flowing brook provide critical wildlife habitat and serve as an important link for regional wildlife connectivity.
The Preserve was made possible through the generosity of Patricia LeClair and her family. Patricia and her neighbor Mary Curtis shared a love of the woods that connected their properties and often walked together. After the Curtises passed, Patricia inherited their land and later chose to donate 127 acres to Saratoga PLAN to ensure its permanent protection.
Saratoga PLAN is pleased to announce the permanent conservation of 41 acres of land known as Tanner Ridge Farm, located in the Town of Stillwater. The property, currently owned and operated as an equine boarding and training facility by Katie Ogden and Matthew Harris, will now remain agricultural land forever through a conservation easement which will be held by the Town of Stillwater.
444 acres of wooded forestland within the Southern Palmertown Range in the towns of Wilton and Greenfield have been permanently protected, preserving a critical landscape at the intersection of rapidly expanding urban development and the Adirondack Park. The foresight and conservation commitment of landowners Joanne and Thomas Klepetar, working in partnership with Saratoga PLAN, ensured the forested property was protected from development pressures affecting surrounding areas.
