Jim Sevinsky

Jim Sevinsky is a member of the PLAN Board, Chair of its Conservation Committee and a volunteer assisting trail and preserve stewards.
 
Jim served a 40 year legal career managing government and private sector law offices handling environmental, health and safety law; garnering experience in environmental law and policy for NY, the US and globally. Jim joined the NY Attorney General’s Office in 1973 upon graduation from Law School, and led the Environmental Protection Bureau for many years, representing the people of NY and its Agencies in litigation affecting the environment and environmental health. The Environmental Protection Bureau was noted for its innovative and vigorous enforcement and defense of laws protecting the environment. In 1996 Jim became Executive Counsel, Environment, Health and Safety for GE Energy, the lead lawyer managing a full range of environmental, health and safety issues for the Energy business’ then rapidly growing worldwide operations until his retirement in 2013.
 
Jim and his wife Robin reside on a former farm in Charlton, Saratoga County, where they maintain habitat, woods and trails, wildflower meadows and vegetable gardens. They keep honey bees and chickens and enjoy several cats and dogs. Jim is a committed advocate for environmental issues and Robin is a board member engaged in animal protection and humane care issues with the Animal Protective Foundation. Jim has 2 children and 6 grandchildren.
