In honor of Maria’s conservation legacy a Hike Out was held on a beautiful Spring afternoon. The Hike Out was inspired by the ceremonial Walkouts used by Fire and Police Stations when a member of the force retires. Saratoga PLAN Board members, Staff, family and friends met at the Shenantaha Creek Park to hike with Maria and wish her well on her journey into retirement. She led the group to a scenic location on the Zim Smith Trail. Maria expressed her gratitude to everyone who has supported her in her tenure as Executive Director of PLAN. She gave a heartfelt address in which she said, “Conservation is a team sport” and that PLAN has the people and support to continue conserving lands well into the future. She looks forward to spending time at each of the places she has helped conserve.
