Saratoga PLAN [Preserving Land and Nature] is a non-profit land trust seeking to increase brand awareness in the region. Intern must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. All interns must be fully vaccinated for covid-19 prior to the start of their internship.

The Development Team at PLAN works on innovative and responsive communications strategies in exploring creative ways to both communicate broadly about Saratoga PLAN’s mission and on what it does as a land trust. The intern will support these efforts working with the Communications Manager on a Brand Awareness Campaign in the office. The intern will help with content creation and messaging on projects that connect local audiences to PLAN, its public preserves and trails, and land conservation efforts within Saratoga County. Deliverables will include blog posts, social media posts, press releases, photos, and videos. The intern will gain practical experience with a communications campaign, which will include assisting through the entire process and being responsible for a part of the plan. This work will help in the intern’s career development and add to their portfolio, while engaging with PLAN’s audience. The intern will also aid in digital online asset management and attending public tabling events.

The intern will have the opportunity to make their position more dynamic by choosing to have 1-2 days a week devoted to supporting Stewardship, Fundraising, Program Operations and/or Land Acquisition. This will provide a broader understanding of how environmental non-profit land trusts work.

Intern Qualifications:

The intern selected for this position should possess: Demonstrated strategic thinking skills, the ability to self-start/work independently, and to adapt to a rapidly changing professional environment. We are looking for someone with education, marketing, and/or communications related skills and abilities. Projects will be identified based on the strengths and interests of the individual balanced with the needs of the office.

The applicant should have a blend of the following: * strong interest in environmental protection and conservation initiatives * ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing * some college-level writing/visual media classes * experience preparing, writing, and/or editing written material * desire and/or ability to work as part of a team to brainstorm and develop outreach materials and achieve common goals * ability to cooperate with and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, partners, and the public. Additional skills are a plus but not required: * experience with web and/or social media content * experience with photography, videography, graphic design, and/or multimedia creation * experience with GIS.

Physical Environment: The position is in the Saratoga PLAN office at 112 Spring St., Saratoga Springs, NY. The work will be performed primarily in an office setting but with opportunities to work on preserves (trail work, photography, events, etc.) and partially remote, based on proven work ethic.
